I find myself back in Cochabamba after two years of work and travel, and it’s just as lovely as I remembered. My first trip to Bolivia was as a volunteer through Sustainable Bolivia. Visiting nearby towns, talking to local schoolchildren, and essentially figuring out daily life in a foreign country filled my days. I worked with the organization Aynisuyu, evaluating one of their programs directed toward 11 and 12 year olds to teach them about themes such as basic health, sexual health, human rights, and family violence. Now working in Sustainable Bolivia’s office, I am excited to get to know more about all of our partner organizations and see what they do.
Though the city seems to have changed little and salteñas are still as tasty as I remember, Sustainable Bolivia has grown and become more streamlined. I am so proud of Erik for creating this organization and shaping it to evolve into the entity it is now.
The last time I was here, I was fortunate enough to meet some incredible people who quickly became my extended international family. While no one is quite like them, I am looking forward to getting to know my new Sustainable Bolivia family, and I am confident they will be just as unique and wonderful as the group I became so close to before.
Love to all,
Lily
