Art Residency
Our mission is to promote the arts in Bolivia while fostering intercultural exchange between international and local artists.
Who can Apply
The Art Residency Program in Latin America, concretely in Bolivia, is available to all artists from any country regardless of age, gender, or medium. The residency is for artists who can adapt and work independently on their project and develop their own network of contacts in Riberalta. It is recommended to speak Spanish as well.
History
Sustainable Bolivia’s Art Residency program began in 2009 with Scottish-born painter Thomas McGreggor. Through him, SB met many local and international artists and quickly became involved in Bolivia’s art community. In an effort to maintain this cultural exchange, as well as develop a tradition within our organization, SB decided to work alongside local artists to develop an art residency program.
Art Residency Riberalta
Now that SB is located in Riberalta, the program is still in need of networking and building long term relationships between local artists and art residents. SB is currently looking for artists who could get in contact with locals and develop the cultural exchange. You are also welcome if you are an independent artist who wants to come for a personal project on which you can work on your own.
Volunteer
In an effort to fully integrate the resident as well as provide a service to the community, the selected candidate will also have the opportunity to volunteer with one of SB’s partner organizations.
What is Provided?
Selected applicants are provided space in the volunteer house to create their work and support to find where to buy their materials, we recommend you bring your own equipment as it might be difficult to find in Riberalta.
Costs
The art residency costs the same as a volunteer/intern (up to $250 a month) and includes a fully furnished shared room or private room, all utilities, 24-hour staff support, internet access and cultural events.
Application Instructions
Please submit a resume with a brief cover letter and samples of your work (information@sustainablebolivia.org). Applications will be reviewed by Sustainable Bolivia.
