About Sustainable Bolivia

Sustainable Bolivia (SB) is a 501 (c) 3 international non-profit organization with conservation and sustainable development initiatives in the Bolivian Amazon.

Sustainable Bolivia (SB) was founded in 2007 in Cochabamba, Bolivia with a vision to support local Bolivian organization through the allocation of human and financial resources.

For 10 years (2007 – 2017) SB supported more than 40 partner organizations, provided more than $500,000 dollars in direct project funding, and oversaw the work of over 1,000 volunteers/interns.  However, in 2017, SB relocated to the Amazon area of Bolivia where it helped establish the Aquicuana Reserve.

Our Work in the Aquicuana Reserve

The Aquicuana Reserve is an area of incredible biodiversity located about 20 kilometers from the city of Riberalta in the Beni Department of the Bolivian Amazon.

In collaboration with Fundación Amazonía, Pisatahua, the municipality of Riberalta and the communities Warnes and San Jose, SB established the Reserve which protects more than 20,000 hectares of rainforest.

Inside the reserve, SB initiated and oversees projects focused on: community-based ecotourism, conservation, environmental education and biological research.

The conservation of the Aquicuana Reserve by local communities is one of the main goals of Sustainable Bolivia
Our Work in Riberalta

In June of 2022 we re-opened our volunteer projects following a 2 year suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nowadays most of our work is now focused inside the reserve; nevertheless, we continue to support local organizations in Riberalta through volunteer and internship placements. For instance, we now partner with 7 local organizations in the areas of education and environment.

Additionally, SB arranges art residencies, and research opportunities for international students and professionals both in Riberalta and the Aquicuana Reserve.

Moreover, SB also runs a Spanish and Indigenous Language School providing instruction in the native Chacobo, Cavineño and Ese Ejja languages.

SB is a non-profit organization, with limited support by public or private funds… that’s why every donation counts!
